We Made That were commissioned to develop a family of landscape interventions in the London 2012 Olympic Park in a team with The Klassnik Corporation and Riitta Ikonen. These interventions formed part of the Olympic Delivery Authority’s Arts and Culture Strategy, which integrates art and culture as a core element of the Olympic site.
The proposals are collectively entitled ‘Fantasticology’; they are designed to reveal both the factual and incredible, the local and universal, in the new landscape of the park.
Working closely with the Parklands and Public Realm team and the Olympic landscape designers, we developed “Fantastic-Archaeology”, a series of planting designs for wildflower meadows as a floral celebration of the past industrial heritage of the site.
The meadows recreate the footprints of the industrial buildings sited on the previous estates through different species of wildflower, which bloomed in strong colours during Games time and will continue to fade into the future.
