The scheme made a series of proposals to reinvigorate the outdated fabric of the existing building, putting forward ‘Several Sensible Suggestions Under One Roof’ to refurbish and revitalise the youth centre.
The intention was for the centre to encourage young people and staff to feel safe and secure, to feel at home. By invoking a typically domestic language; comfy chairs and lampshades in the front room, a back garden complete with potting shed and compost heap, we hoped to create a welcoming atmosphere with which to provide a constant, stable element in the lives of those who visit.
Through refurbishment and building anew, the centre’s layout would be vastly improved. The scheme proposed a brand new 3-storey extension to replace the current rear accommodation, coupled with a complete interior refurbishment. The improvements were carefully considered to complement the function of the centre and the Grade II Listed Building which it inhabits.
